How I Style My Hair Curly

Since I have been wearing my hair curly or wavy, I have received a lot of questions on how I style it.

I was blessed or cursed with curly hair.  When I was younger it was a complete mess.  It was definitely hard to style but as I got older I embraced my curls when my hair was long.  So now that my hair is longer, I have been wearing my hair curly a lot more.

There are two ways to style my hair curly.  The first way is to go natural.

For the natural curls, I wash my hair do not brush my hair and then let my hair air dry.  Styling my hair this way is a little unpredictable and sometimes causes lots of frizz.  But some days I am too lazy to take the other steps to make my hair curly.

The other way to style my hair curly is also pretty simple.  I use L.A. Looks Mega Hold styling gel.

This gel is cheap ($2.99) and can be found at most drugstores.  I have been using this curl gel since I was a senior in high school and love the product for the price.

My L.A. Looks curls are a little more defined and less frizzy than if I go natural.

For styling my hair curly with the gel, I shower and wash my hair (again I do not brush my hair).  I have found brushing my hair pulls out my curls.  After showering, I stick my head in the sink and damp it again.  I then add a quarter size amount of the L.A. Looks gel to my palm and work through my hair scrunching to help add curls.  I then let my hair dry.  If the day is going to be humid my hair curls even more.

Review - Avon Advance Techniques Damage Repair Reconstructive Mask

After using the TRESemme Split End Remedy for a few months, I was still looking for a product to really help my damaged hair without cutting it.  One of my good friends started selling Avon and I wanted to pick up a few items for an order.  I found the Advance Techniques Damage Repair Reconstructive Mask.  The mask is only $8 and states that it provides a micro-protective layer over each hair fiber to seal in moisture.  I was excited to try the product and based on the reviews felt like it would be really good.

I have been using the product for three weeks now and definitely can see a difference.  I use the mask once a week.  I place about a fifty-cent piece amount in my palms and run through my hair.  The instructions say to leave the mask on your hair for 3 to 5 minutes.  I try to leave the mask on a little longer to condition my hair more.

The mask has left my hair feeling softer and less damaged.  My only complaint is that the mask warns that your skin will be more sensitive to the sun.  I am pretty pale so I don’t really want to be more sensitive to the sun.  I haven’t been out in the sun for a long time so I haven’t noticed if I will be more sensitive.  But the warning does worry me.

This is my last post this week.  J and I are going out of town and I thought a weekend off would do me good.  I hope you have a great weekend!

Have you tried the Advance Techniques Damage Repair Reconstructive Mask or another mask?

Review - TRESemme Split End Remedy

I have been growing my hair out for sometime now.  I chopped my hair off during law school and kept it short for a long time.  I even went shorter than the photo below.

My Hair 2008

After my surgery, I decided to grow my hair longer.  But my hair grows really slow.  So I hate cutting it, because I know that it will take forever for it to grow back (even if it is just a trim).  I try to take care of my hair by doing deep conditioning and washing every other day, but I have noticed that I am getting split ends.  When I saw a commercial for TRESemme Split End Remedy, I thought I would give it a try.  I purchased the TRESemme Split Remedy Shampoo ($4.79), TRESemee Split Remedy Conditioner ($5.69), and TRESeme Split Remedy Split End Sealing Serum ($4.99).  The products states that after three days 80% of split ends will be gone.

I have used the products together for two weeks.  I have noticed that my hair is smoother and has more shine.  However, I still see the split ends when I exam my hair closely.  I think the products have made my hair look healthier but am sad that my split ends are not gone.  I will likely continue using the product though.

Reader Question – Hair Care

Hair Products

I have received many comments and questions about my hair care products.  I am definitely not an expert when it comes to hair, but I thought I would share my tips and products that keep my hair shiny.

The first product that I will share is Pantene Pro-V Restoratives Time Renewal Replenishing Mask.  I use this product once a week.  I get my hair wet and then lather this product throughout my hair.  Then I take a cheap shower cap and place it on my head.  I keep the replenishing mask on my hair for about an hour and then rinse.

Throughout the rest of the week, I only wash my hair every other day.  If I dry my hair every day my hair starts to really dry out.  I’ve tried expensive products and cheap products for my hair but my favorite is the Pantene Pro-V Medium-Thick Solutions.  I use both the shampoo and conditioner.

After my shower I take a towel to my hair and then use a comb to get the tangles out.  Once I have used the comb, I use my straightening product.  I have used Bumble Bumble Straight forever.  This is the only product that really keeps my hair straight (since I have naturally curly hair).  Then I start the drying process.  I wish I could let my hair dry naturally, but that is impossible so I use my trust hair dryer, flat brush, and round brush.

I plan to share my drying and straightening technique next week.

What hair products do you use?

Review – L.A. Looks Absolute Styling Mega Mega Hold

I have crazy curly hair.  It is thick and sometimes out of control.  In order for my curly to be manageable, I use L.A. Looks Absolute Styling Mega Mega Hold.  I discovered this product my senior year of high school and have been using it since.

The product can be picked up at your local drug store, Target, or Walmart.  The product is also cheap.  A 20-ounce bottle costs $2.99 and lasts forever.

How I get my curly look is pretty simple.  After I shower, I run some water in the sink and place my head in the sink.  Then I put about a quarter size amount of gel in my hands and crunch my hair and let my hair air-dry.  I obviously like the product since I have been using it since my senior year of high school.  But you definitely do not want to put too much gel in your hair because it will become stiff.  Overall L.A. Looks Absolute Styling Mega Mega Hold is a great product.

I try to review a product at least once a week; if you have a product you would like me to review contact me.

Review – Bumble and Bumble Straight

I have insanely thick and curly hair.  My hairdresser always jokes that I have enough hair to give to someone else and still have too much hair.  As a child, I was the girl with the thickest braids and ponytails.  So I am always on the market for a product that will help my curly hair become straight.  Thankfully, I do not have to shop any more, because I have found the ideal product – Bumble and Bumble Straight.

Bumble and Bumble Straight comes in a 5 oz. bottle and costs $26.00.  This may seem a little pricey, but I have had the product for nine months and still have some left.  So it’s definitely worth the price.

Place about a quarter worth of the product in your palms and run it through your hair.  I then take a round brush and hair dryer to make my hair straight.  Although the product says is “all you need is this, a blow dryer and a brush for the straightest, sleekest style on the street” I generally have to use a hair straightener to get sleek hair.  With Bumble and Bumble, I only have to use the straightener over my hair one time and with other products I would have to use it over and over and pretty much fry my hair.

If you have curly hair, but long for straight hair definitely give Bumble and Bumble - Straight a try.

I try to review a product at least once a week; if you have a product you would like me to review contact me.
