Yesterday, J and I attended the 2011 Jacksonville Backyard BBQ Championship. The event was held at the Ever Bank Field (i.e. the Jacksonville Jaguar’s stadium). Although I am the biggest fan of bbq, I knew that J would really enjoy it. But I have to admit once I started tasting samples from all the competitors I came to the conclusion that I might actually like bbq. There were probably 30 competitors (20 amateur and 10 professional teams) and each had their own take on bbq. Some of the meat was spicy while others were sweet. We got to try ribs, chicken, and pork at most stations and even had smoked gator sausage at one. I have only had gator fried and wasn’t that impressed, but the smoked gator sausage was pretty tasty. It could have been the fact that the guy cooking it had wrestled it to the grown or it could be that I just really like gator. I think it might be a little bit of both.
The BBQ championship was delicious. I just wish I had remembered the sunblock. I am generally always good about putting on sunblock since I am one of the palest girls in Florida, but for some reason I didn’t. So when I got home I noticed that my shoulders were a nice shade of red. Looks like I will be wearing short sleeve tops this week.
My look for the event.

That ring is so fab.
and as a texas girl I am a HUGE bbq fan. That event sounds like so much fun!
The ring was such a steal - I think I paid $4.00 for it! I'm sure growing up in Texas makes you love bbq! It was a great event!
